Derivative Test Tomorrow!

Imortant note for the derivatives test... NO GRAPHING CALCULATORS. I will be providing enough baby claculators for everyone, but feel free to bring your own.

This test will be assessing whether you can take the derivative of any function thrown your way, but most importantly, I need to find out if you know what the derivative means and what you can do with it.

Use the review guidelines we created in class to help continue studying.
(We had a nice turnout of 15 or so students in lab today.)

See you tomorrow!

Remember the Bonus Opportunity!

Can't wait to read your plans for my future honors students!!!
They need to be turned in by May 17th. First, second, and third place will be awarded to three students in each block!

Chain Rule Assignment (2.4)

7-29 odd, 43-59 odd, 65-68 all, 69,71

Remember, it's NOT the Calculus, it's the Algebra!
Look at each problem and strategize first. The Calculus part
is the selective picking of the correct derivative
method(s)(Power Rule, Product Rule, Quotient Rule, and Chain Rule),
and applying it (them). The Algebra is the simplifying.

Have fun!

From Here Until Spring Break!

Thanks to the 42 students who posted comments!
(Please feel free to post comments anytime!)

Our schedule up until spring break will remain the same, except that we will not be quizzing Friday, and will be spending one lesson reviewing logs, versus two. Before our review on Tuesday, please make sure that you have attempted all assignments, so that we can be fine tuning during our review...

Please find my partial fractions lesson notes on the link to the right.

If you can, please find the time this weekend to study for our Ch P test :-)

Bonus Opportunity!

Interested in one bonus point?? Please click on the "Say Goodbye to Conics" link to the right. Read, then leave a short post (please include your name!!). The bonus point has nothing to do with the content of your post, but rather the act of getting on the blog and then leaving a post in response to this delightful reading that I'm offering...

Also, please find the link to the outline of today's lesson (2/23/10)on the right. As stated in class, the understanding of these Algebra topics is ESSENTIAL to success in Calculus. This stuff will never go away (literally as well as figuratively... remember that from here on out, all tests will be cumulative...Yes, that's how important this stuff is!!) Please spend the time necessary to insure complete understanding of each type of problem listed in the outline.

Looking forward to your posts!!

Note from Mrs. Overby

Since I will be teaching class on Friday, I thought I would give you a little pre-assignment. Please reflect on how you can grow personally from your experience with the take home test. Please try to be honest with yourself. Guaranteed mom talk on Friday. See you then!

Don't forget....

It has been interesting watching from the back of the room...
Just wanted to remind you that Mr. Samuels is offering a re-take
to anyone who scores below a 70% on the test. He has made a 2nd
version. Those who take the retest can earn back up to a 70%
(but no higher). I am interested in how many people tried the
"stare at it until you fall asleep" study technique. Don't
forget to participate in the poll. Thanks! Hope everyone has
a wonderful weekend!

Math Competition and Studying Tips

The ASHME math competition will be held at North (during school) on Feb 9th. Six students have signed up from 4th block (you know who you are!)...I need 9 more students to sign up. Including specific math competitions on your college applications next year always looks impressive, plus, you can advance to a higher level in this competition (and I believe there are "prizes").

Also, don't forget to put some quality time into your studying tonight and tomorrow night. It really does help to put all of your info on a card (or sheet of paper) and stare at it (well, it would be helpful if you read it while staring...) for 10 minutes right before you fall asleep (really. give it a try!) You will wake up refreshed and with new info stored in your long term memory (for life!)

Good luck on the test this Friday!
